Five teenagers were arrested and are facing charges after an assault and carjacking in Thompson April 23.
RCMP say two females were getting into a vehicle at a business on Station Road around 2 a.m. Saturday morning when a group of people approached them and an altercation ensued. Both victims were assaulted. When one of them ran back into the business to get help, one of the suspects got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and drove away with the other female victim still inside, but she managed to exit the moving vehicle and get to safety.
Both victims were taken to Thompson General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
About half-an-hour later Thompson RCMP officers responding to a report of a vehicle in the ditch near Paint Lake spotted the stolen vehicle and used a police dog to locate the five suspects hiding in the bush.
One officer received minor injuries when he was assaulted while arresting the suspects.
Angel Kraeker, 18, of Thompson and Tyra Weenusk, 18, of Winnipeg, are charged with robbery, kidnapping, assault causing bodily harm, possessing property obtained by crime, theft, and assault and were remanded into custody.
A15-year-old female from Thompson is charged with robbery, kidnapping, assault causing bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, possessing property obtained by crime, theft and assault.
A 16-year-old male from Thompson is charged with robbery, kidnapping, assault causing bodily harm, possessing property obtained by crime, theft, assault, resisting arrest and three counts of failing to comply with conditions. He was remanded into custody.
An 18-year-old female from Thompson will face charges of robbery, kidnapping, assault causing bodily harm, possessing property obtained by crime, theft and assault, She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court.
Thompson RCMP continue to investigate.
