Four suspected arsons destroy home, vehicle and storage building in Bunibonibee Cree Nation

Oxford House RCMP believe the fires, one of which caused minor damage to a home, are connected.

Two residences, a storage building and a car were damaged or destroyed by flames over two nights in Oxford House in what police believe are connected arsons.

The first fire, at a storage building in Bunibonibee Cree Nation, was reported just after 2 a.m. Nov. 15. The building was destroyed and adjacent buildings suffered minor damage.

About an hour later, Oxford House RCMP responded to a vehicle fire in the same area of the community. The vehicle was destroyed but no one was inured.

Just over 24 hours later, police received a report of a residence fire in the Mud Lake area of the community. The home was destroyed but the residents got out of the building and non injuries resulted.

Around 6 a.m. Nov. 16, police responded to another residence fire in the Mud Lake area. The fire caused minor damage to the building before it was extinguished and no injuries resulted.

Oxford House RCMP are investigating the fires as related and believe they were deliberately started. The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner is assisting the investigation.
