A new roof for Burntwood School in Thompson is among $15.5 million worth of school roofing projects that are part of $57.5 in infrastructure renewal projects announced by Manitoba Education and Training Minister Kelvin Goertzen April 18.
Burntwood’s roof is one of 22 roof replacements announced, including Hapnot Collegiate and École MacIsaac schools in Flin Flon. Mackenzie Middle School in the Mountain View School Division is getting a building envelope retrofit that is also included in the $15.5 million worth of roofing projects.
The province is also spending $17 million for mechanical system replacements in eight school divisions, $14.4 million for structural upgrades in 10 school divisions, and $10.6 million on access upgrades eight school divisions.
One of the structural upgrades is a crawlspace remediation at Mel Johnson School in Wabowden.
“Our ongoing investment in school infrastructure will strengthen buildings and improve accessibility so that Manitoba students can receive a quality education for generations to come,” said Goertzen in a press release.
The Public Schools Finance Board timeline for completion of these projects is six months to two years following the award of tenders and the start of construction.
