The closure of the Norplex Pool as a result of an electrical fire May 17 stretched to seven weeks as the city announced June 29 that it would not reopen before July 5.
The City of Thompson website said the pool would remain closed for repairs and maintenance June 29-30, July 2 and July 4 and would be closed for the Canada Day holiday on July 1 and July 3.
“The Norplex Pool is experiencing a mechanical/technical issue that requires a specialty technician to be brought in to work on the issues with our HVAC/heating system and the equipment computer system,” said the update. “The city continues to reheat the pool water to a point above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a day-to-day process and we will keep you updated as we progress.”
Pool offices are now open during regular pool hours from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
At the time the fire occurred, the pool had only been open for 10 days – since May 8 – after having been closed since April 23 when a seven-year-old from Split Lake drowned.
