Manitoba Public Health advised April 16 that there had been possible public exposures to a COVID-19 variant of concern at Walmart and Safeway in Thompson on April 6 and April 10.
Friday’s COVID-19 bulletin said there may have been an exposure to the B.1.1.7 or United Kingdom variant of the virus at Walmart between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. April 6 and at Safeway between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on April 10. Any person experiencing possible COVID-19 symptoms who was at these locations during the times of the possible public exposure should isolate immediately and go for testing.
A COVID-19 outbreak has also been declared at the Flin Flon personal care home.
The province said April 16 that there were 127 new cases of the virus in Manitoba and that the five-day test positivity rate was 5.1 per cent.
Seventy-five of the new cases were in the Winnipeg region and 29 in the north. There were also 12 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region, six in Prairie Mountain and five in the southern health region.
Three more cases involving the B.1.1.7 variant have been identified in the Northern Regional Health Authority and the total is now six. There has also been one other case involving a variant of concern that has not been categorized.
There are 130 Manitobans in hospital due to COVID-19, including 70 with active cases, 17 of whom are in intensive care. There are also 17 other patients in intensive care who are no longer considered infectious.
Twenty-four of those hospitalized are northern residents, 16 of whom have active cases of COVID-19. Five of those with active cases are in intensive care, as are six other patients who are no longer considered infectious.
