Two men were injured when a semi-trailer loaded with asphalt collided with a van and exploded after wiping out a traffic light standard. The resulting fire was quickly brought under control.
A Metis group from Norway House were threatening to stage a round-the-clock protest outside the legislature if their demands for economic assistance weren't met. They were seeking $1 million to relieve unemployment among 600 Metis residents of the community.

Lynn Gold Resources Inc. announced that it would be shutting down its operation in Lynn Lake in November, citing continuing operating problems and weak gold prices as factors.
Highway 39 between Ponton and the junction of Highway 10 was re-opened to traffic, as was Highway 391 to Leaf Rapids, though entry to Nelson House was not allowed. The roads had been closed due to smoke from forest fires.

Police received reports of a stolen licence plate on Nickel Road as well as a dog stolen from the bus depot.
Vandals were blamed for a fire at the Thompson waste disposal grounds that destroyed a building and a van, while damaging a metal shed. A Caterpillar tractor also had all its windows smashed out.
