Thompson Safeway staff took some time out from their duties April 13 to recognize one of their colleagues for going above and beyond.
Brandon McDonald was presented with a 2021 Sobeys Value Champion Award for his dedication to his job and service to his community.
“Brandon’s dedication to upholding our store standards, helping the front end with price checks and returns, and assisting customers and staff hasn’t gone unnoticed by his peers and our customers,” said Dave MacDonald, Thompson Safeway store manager. “Brandon has been an enthusiastic fundraiser for special Olympics. He’s an incredibly hard worker. You represent the very best of Sobeys and you are a true champion in every sense of the word. We are so proud to have someone so remarkable in our team at the Safeway family.
Brandon’s parents Sherrie Benner and David McDonald were on hand to see their son receive his award.
“We’re extremely over-the-moon proud of Brandon for this distinguished award,” said Benner, who credited her son’s coworkers for creating an environment in which he can excel. “My hubby would like to take a moment to give a huge thank-you to the management team and all the staff. You are truly a continuous support of our son Brandon and all his accomplishments in his journey. You are all an extended family to us and Brandon.”
The soft-spoken award recipient gave a very brief acceptance speech after opening a gift box filled with all of his favourite snacks and ingredients from Safeway’s shelves.
“Thanks for everything, for all they do,” said Brandon, in appreciation of his bosses and coworkers.
