Five University College of the North (UCN) nursing instructors have won an employee award from Red River College (RRC) for their contributions as part of a team delivering micro-credential health courses to aid Manitoba's fight against COVID-19
Dorothy Loder, Megan Boscow, Kathleen Threinen, Shamilla Thethy and Cindy Fleming received a Hidden Hero BRAVO Award from RRC for their work as part fof the college’s Rapid Execution and Development (RED) team established to train students around the province in short courses to prepare them for roles related to the pandemic.
The instructors helped support the battle against the virus by offering COVID Vaccine Administration training at UCN. So far, they have trained over 80 students with more training coming up this month.
“The Red River College community and our RED Team has stepped up throughout the last 15 months to work together in the fight against COVID-19 – and this includes our valued partners from University College of the North,” said RRC’s interim academic executive director Arnold Boldt in a UCN news release. “Vaccine administration is an important part of preventing the spread and reducing the impact of COVID-19 and assists with the pandemic response. This team has continued to meet the challenges of this pandemic head on and worked around the clock to keep Manitobans safe, and for that, we are so proud to honour these individuals with the 2021 BRAVO Hidden Hero Award.”
BRAVO Award Hidden Hero recipients are nominated by other RRC employees for making a difference by demonstrating RRC’s values of learning, respect, inclusiveness,, healthy environment and community contribution.
“They have all done a fabulous job training students at a critical time for our province,” said UCN dean of health Vicki Zeran. “I’m extremely proud to be part of such a fantastic team of committed and professional instructors.”
