All workers at the Nutrien Lanigan potash mine are safe after an underground fire in the facility.
The fire began Sept. 25 at approximately 1 pm. Emergency crews extinguished the fire right away.
Following the mine’s protocols, the 101 workers in the mine at the time went into refugee stations and stayed there until 6:30 pm.
Emergency crews then examined the air quality, making sure it was safe for the employees.
There will now be an investigation into the fire, said Will Tigley, a Nutrien spokesperson.
“The cause of the fire itself is unknown but we’re working with the authorities to determine the cause.”
