The Norway House Goldhawks exploded for nine runs in the third inning of the June 21 final to turn a five-run deficit into a four run lead and never looked back as they powered their way to an 18-8 victory over the Lunatics in the Merchant Media Slo-Pitch League's 2009 Nickel Days tournament.
The Goldhawks collected $3,000 for the win.
Things started well for the Lunatics, who scored two runs in each of the first two innings and one in the third to open up a 5-0 lead. But a lead-off double by the Goldhawks in the bottom of the third, followed by an outfield single, got Norway House on the board and they took a 6-5 lead on a double with runners on second and third base before adding three more.
The Lunatics scored twice in their sixth-inning at-bat to make the score 15-8, but the Goldhawks got three runs with two outs in the bottom half to establish a 10-run lead before stranding two Lunatics on base in the seventh.
The Goldhawks finished first in their pool in the round-robin, then defeated the Sluggers and Hold 'Em in the playoffs to qualify for the final.
The Lunatics were also first in their pool and beat No Fear in the playoffs.
