The featured Norman Northstars’ players of the week both came from out-of-province to play in the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League.
Kobe Tanuyak, 17, is from Rankin Inlet and is fifth in team scoring with seven goals and 10 assists in 27 games this season. The 6’4”, 163-pound forward has six power play goals and six power play assists as well as 10 minutes in penalties and is sponsored by Paul Iveson Mechanical.
Also playing forward is 5’8”, 153-pound Prime Paniyuk, who is eighth in team scoring with three goals and six assists in 27 games, along with four penalty minutes. The 15-year-old from Coral Harbour, Nunavut has one power play goal, two power play assists and one game-winning goal. His uniform sponsor is Twin Motors.
The 8-16-3 Northstars are currently in 10th place in the league after going 0-2 against the Eastman Selects at home Dec. 4-5. They have the same number of points as the ninth-place Winnipeg Bruins but have played four more games. The Northstars are eight points ahead of the 11th-place Interlake Lightning.
The Northstars are at home again Dec. 11-12 to take on the fifth-place Winnipeg Thrashers, who have eight more points than them despite having played five fewer games.
