Minor baseball is set to wrap up a successful season, says long-time Thompson baseball organizer Red Sangster, thanks to the work of president Ray Zimmerman and the other members of the board.
"They really worked hard on it," said Sangster, doing everything from getting new uniforms and putting the schedules together to organizing the coaches and holding an umpire's clinic.
"We got lots of volunteers, which was the greatest thing going," said Sangster.
This season, there were 183 players registered in minor baseball at all age levels.
"They played on about four different diamonds around town," said Sangster. "It was good to see all the kids out in uniforms. We had all our old uniforms that I kept since baseball shut down four years ago."
The teams will wrap up their regular season schedule this week, then start their playoffs.
"Hopefully, we're going to have a big wind-up for minor ball," said Sangster, who has plans to bring two players up from the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the season-end celebration.
