R.D. Parker Collegiate’s varsity girls basketball team won one of three games at the AAA high school basketball provincials in Brandon March 18-20 while the Trojan boys dropped both their contests.
Both RDPC teams started off the provincials with losses March 18.
The ninth-ranked Trojans fell to eighth-ranked Springfield 36-23 in the girls’ opener, led by Kamryn Brown, who recorded 11 points, and Nicole Cruda, who pitched in six. Cruda was named RDPC’s player of the game.
The Trojan boys, ranked 10th, dropped their opening game in a much higher-scoring affair against seventh-ranked Sanford, who beat RDPC 91-66. Evan Lawton was the leading scorer for Sanford with 31 points while Takunda Horayi had 20 points for the Trojans and his teammate Keniel Williams added 15. Horayi was named RDPC’s player of the game.
The Trojan girls recovered to win their first consolation side game 49-42 over the W.C. Miller Aces March 19. Sophie Murdy led the squad with 14 points and Kassidy Morin had 13.
The RDC girls finished up the tournament with a 59-26 loss to Steinbach Christian in the consolation semifinals. Steinbach Christian went on to win the consolation final 45-39 over the Linden Christian Wings.
The boys team fell 73-49 to the Transcona Titans in the consolation quarterfinals.
