Figure skaters from Skate Thompson competed at the 2018 Skate Canada Manitoba Sectional Championship Nov. 4-5 in Virden’s Tundra Oil and Gas Place. Virden was the host to the province’s highest-skilled skaters.
Amy Shier and Megan
Szabo skated remarkably well, displaying all their hard work, dedication and talent to the sport.
Amy Shier placed eighth in the juvenile 14-and-under women’s freeskate. Megan Szabo placed sixth in the pre-novice women’s freeskate. Megan received her personal best mark for her short and long program. Great skating, girls! You both are an inspiration for our Thompson skaters.
For many figure skaters this championship is their first exposure to the competitive stream of figure skating. The top three skaters in pre-novice, novice, junior and senior that have met the Skate Canada CMS score advance to the 2018 Skate Canada Challenge Nov. 29-Dec. 3 in Pierrefonds, Quebec.
Skaters competing in juvenile, pre-novice and novice levels at 2018 sectionals in Virden have the opportunity to be chosen for the 2018 Manitoba Winter Games being held in Thompson March 4-10.
There will be two skaters from each region per category selected. The wildcard spots will be used to fill up each category to the maximum number of entries as set out in the technical package. The wildcard spot will be filled by the next highest score (regardless of region).
Final teams will be announced and posted by Nov. 15.
