WINNIPEG — Classes are cancelled and people are being told to take shelter at the University of Manitoba due to reports of a man armed with a knife.

Winnipeg police are asking people to stay away from part of the university's Fort Garry campus and avoid the immediate area of the Allen Building.

University officials say students currently on campus should lock all doors and stay where they are, and those who aren't on school grounds should stay away.

All exams and events are also cancelled for the day, but virtual classes and those located on the Bannatyne campus are still going ahead.

Police say there is a large officer presence on campus as they try to find the suspect.

They say no injuries have been reported.
