Manitoba saw the number of COVID-19 cases increase by 111 March 16 while the five-day test positivity rate climbed to 5.2 per cent, up from 4.8 per cent on Monday.
One previous case was removed due to a data correction for a net increase of 110 cases.
Seventy-one of the new cases were in the Northern Regional Health Authority, including 45 in the Pukatawagan/Mathias Colomb health district and seven each in the Island Lake and Cross Lake/Pimicikamak health districts. There was one new case in the Thompson/Mystery Lake health district.
Manitoba also reported that it has detected 13 more cases involving the variant of concern first identified in the United Kingdom and one more involving the variant of concern first identified in South Africa. These cases were all from the Winnipeg region and there have now been 43 cases involving the U.K variant and 12 cases of the South Africa variant identified in the province, for a total of 55.
No new deaths were reported March 16 and the total number of people in Manitoba who have died as a result of the virus remains at 917.
There are 151 Manitobans in hospital due to COVID-19, 58 of them with active infections. Ten of those with active infections are in intensive care, as are 12 patients who are no longer considered infectious.
Twenty-five northerners are in hospital due to COVID, 19 of whom are considered infectious. There are seven northern residents in intensive care, including five with active infections.
