A 23-year-old Wasagamack First Nation man is charged with armed robbery and other offences after a business in the community was robbed of cash and cigarettes March 8.
Island Lake RCMP were notified of the robbery around 8:20 p.m. Monday, learning that a man with a bandana over his face had entered carrying a firearm, demanded money and cigarettes from the employee and then fled.
First Nation Safety Officers and other community members reported that they had encountered the suspect fleeing on foot and officers contained the area. After determining that he was inside his residence, police called the house and spoke with the suspect, who was cooperative and came outside where he was arrested without incident. The gun used in the robbery was located and determined to be a replica. Police also found the bandana he had been wearing and the stolen cigarettes.
