The Thompson chapter of 100 Women Who Care presented a cheque for $5,900 to the Thompson Air Cadets March 4 as the winning pitch from their December meeting and voted for the Boreal Discovery Centre as the recipient of the next donation.
The Boreal Discovery Centre, which was one of the runners-up to the cadets in December and to the the University College of the North’s (UCN) Early Learning and Child Care Centre at the September meeting of 100 Women Who Care, will use the money for the creation of an interior mural of the seven sacred teachings, with Thompson artist Jasyn Lucas leading an interactive and educational workshop through which local youth will learn about the teachings and help create the mural
Formed in 2016, 100 Women Who Care has donated $97,550 to various local organizations and aims to grow to include 100 local women who will donate $100 four times a year to groups chosen by vote. Right now there are about 60 members, some of whom donate money but don’t attend meetings or participate in the votes. Their next meeting will be held in June.
