A 33-year-old man from Brandon was killed May 19 when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a semi on Highway 39 just west of the Highway 392 junction.
Snow Lake RCMP were notified of the collision around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday. They arrived at the scene to find emergency medical services treating a 26-year-old man from Brookdale, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, and the 49-year-old man from Flin Flon who was driving the semi and had to be extricated from the vehicle. Both those men suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospital. The pickup’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say it appears the semi was travelling eastbound on Highway 39 when the westbound pickup entered his lane. The semi driver tried to avoid hitting it and ended up in the ditch but the vehicles still collided. The weather was rainy and slightly foggy at the time of the crash.
An RCMP forensic collision reconstructionist and the criminal collision investigative team are assisting the ongoing investigation.
This is the first fatal traffic collision in the RCMP north district, which covers form Grand Rapids up to the Nunavut border, in 2021.
