Steve Grandbois and Thiti Worada Grandbois are the new owners of Sasagiu Rapids Lodge, which had a grand opening Oct. 5, attended by local campers and residents of Wabowden, Setting Lake and Thompson. Steve and Dorothy Samu opened Sasagiu Rapids Lodge, about 42 minutes south of Thompson and a seven-minute drive south of Pisew Falls on Highway 6, right at the Sasagiu Rapids Bridge, between Bolstrom and Setting Lakes, in 1974 and sold it to the Grandbois' Sept. 1. The lodge has been remodelled and has 10 rooms, plus a fully winterized three-bedroom cottage available for rent. There is a formal dining area, bar and meeting room as well. The restaurant has three separate Canadian fare menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a separate Thai menu. All of their purchases wherever available were made locally, Steve Grandbois said. His family moved here in 1969 and established Nickel City Motors in Thompson. Thiti, general manager of Sasagiu Rapids Lodge 2013 Ltd., is from Thailand where she managed a bar and restaurant for eight years prior marrying Steve several years ago.
