Following their first official caucus meeting since new and returning leadership was elected back in May, representatives from the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) announced on July 16 that they will be making some changes to their organizational structure.

While Thompson regional representative Julyda Lagimodiere will remain in her position as minister of the Justice department, Vincent Parenteau is moving from being associate minister of Natural Resources and Agriculture to taking up the role of minister of Environment and Mining.

Fellow Thompson representative Mildred Dorion will also be joining Parenteau in Environment and Mining as his associate minister.

On top of several other ministerial changes, MMF president David Chartrand announced that he will be shuffling around certain portfolios and job titles as well.

The previous Culture, Heritage, Sports and Youth portfolio has now been separated into two separate departments: Culture and Heritage; and Sports and Youth.

Additionally, a brand new French Language portfolio has also been established to help the MMF better serve the needs of French-speaking Métis citizens in Manitoba.

"The direction that I have taken is carefully thought out and well designed,” Chartrand said in a July 16 press release. “We have the right people to take charge. Together we will continue to build the future of our nation."
