Red Sucker Lake First Nation celebrated the grand opening of a new nursing station June 6.
The $13.5 million facility was part of $50 million of the federal government’s five-year Social Infrastructure Fund targeted at upgrading health care facilities on Manitoba First Nations. It includes a digital X-ray machine, a home hemodialysis room and a traditional healing space for residents who practise traditional medicine.
The nursing station is staffed by nurses, support staff and locally employed community-based health program teams with physician services provided the Ongomiizwin (Northern Medical Unit) at the University of Manitoba.
“Modern health infrastructure is at the heart of every successful, growing community,” said Indigenous Services Minister Seamus O-Regan in a press release. “Our government is not only talking about health transformation and partnership – we’re investing in it.”
