South Indian Lake finished third overall in the boys' tournament at the Zone 11 junior varsity volleyball championships Nov. 6-7 in Thompson, defeating Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute of The Pas 26-24, 21-25, 15-8 in the bronze medal match.
South Indian Lake finished fourth out of six teams in the round robin, recording four wins and six losses, winning one set each against R.D. Parker Collegiate and MBCI, and taking both sets from Otter Nelson River School in Cross Lake by a score of 25-16, 25-18.
South Indian Lake lost in the playoff semifinal to Hapnot Collegiate Institute of Flin Flon, which was defeated by RDPC in the championship match.
Otter Nelson River School and Helen Betty Osborne Ininew Education Resource Centre (HBOIERC) from Norway House finished out of the boys' playoffs, each recording two wins in the round robin. HBOIERC defeated South Indian Lake 25-13, 25-10, while Otter Nelson River had two wins over HBOIERC by scores of 25-20, 25-13.
In the girls' tournament, Frontier Collegiate Institute of Cranberry Portage finished third overall, beating MBCI in the bronze medal match after being defeated by RDPC in the playoff semifinal.
FCI was first in Pool B, compiling a perfect 6-0 record in the round robin with wins over MBCI (25-16, 25-17), HBOIERC (25-11, 25-20) and Snow Lake (25-11, 25-14).
HBOIERC won against Snow Lake 25-15, 25-16. Snow Lake was winless in the tournament.
In Pool A, Gillam finished third with three round-robin wins, beating Otter Nelson River School 25-6, 25-20 and splitting their match with South Indian Lake, which also won one set over Otter Nelson River School.
