Wabowden's Arnold Cook, a member of the Mel Johnson School Eagles volleyball team, was named the Tri-Star rural athlete of the week by the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association on Dec. 13.
Cook, a 5'9" setter, led his team to a title at a tournament in Grand Rapids as well as at the Zone 11 finals, which qualified the Eagles for a spot at the provincial A volleyball championships in Pilot Mound, where earned player of the game honours in one of his teams four matches.
"Arnold is dedicated to school and sports and is a person who has accepted and performed well as a leader in and out of the class and on and off the court," said his coach Brenda Tozer. "No matter what the adversity they hit this year he kept the team going."
A Grade 12 student, Cook has an academic average of 80 per cent and also competes in basketball and badminton.
