Thompson residents looking to get a head start on the Sept. 10 provincial election can do so starting today, since advance voting polls are open from now until Sept. 5.
Eligible voters can cast their ballots at either the City Centre Mall or the returning office on Selkirk Avenue located next to Moore Specs. The returning office will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., while advance voting at City Centre is available during the mall’s regular business hours.
The voting location at the mall will not be open on Labour Day (Sept. 2).
Elsewhere in the Thompson electoral district, advance voting will begin as early as tomorrow at the Churchill Town Centre Complex.
After that, advance voting will be available Sept 3 at the Fox Lake Cree Nation band office, the Paint Lake Fire Hall, the Pikwitonei Council Office, the Thicket Portage Community Hall, the Wabowden Community Hall, the War Lake band office in Ilford and the York Landing Arena.
Advance voting places in Nelson House and Gillam will be open Sept. 3-4 at the Gilbert McDonald Arena and the Gillam Recreation Centre, respectively.
All advance voting times outside of Thompson run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eligible voters can vote at any advance voting location in the province.
In the Thompson riding, voters get the pick between four candidates: Kelly Bindle (Progressive Conservatives), Danielle Adams (NDP), Darla Contois (Liberals) and Meagan Jemmett (Green Party).
All four candidates are invited to attend a Sept. 4 debate in Thompson, which is taking place at the Ma-Mow-We-Tak Friendship Centre between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Adams, Bindle and Jemmett have confirmed their participation.
