A 17-year-old female from Chemawawin Cree Nation faces mischief and arson charges in connection with incidents at the community’s RCMP detachment and residences.
The teen was arrested for mischief Nov. 12 when she told a police officer she had thrown a rock and broken a window in an RCMP residence. She was released for an upcoming court date.
On Nov. 14, police were advised by a passerby that the detachment’s garbage container was on fire. The blaze was extinguished by officers, who were among seven people in the building at the time.
Video surveillance indicated that the person who set the fire was the same 17-year-old from the rock-throwing incident.
She was remanded into custody on charges of arson with disregard for human life, arson causing damage to property, possessing incendiary material and failure to comply with conditions.
