One dead, two injured in crash south of Grand Rapids

The vehicle hit a guard rail on a bridge while travelling south after earlier being involved in an incident in Chemawawin.

Two people were injured and one person killed when a vehicle hit a bridge guardrail south of Grand Rapids Nov. 14.

One person is dead and two others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries after a vehicle collided with a guardrail on Highway 6 south of Grand Rapids Nov. 14.

Grand Rapids RCMP responded to the collision, about 50 kilometres south of Grand Rapids, on the bridge at South Twin Creek at 4:15 a.m. Sunday and found a burnt vehicle with two people standing outside. 

The vehicle was travelling south at the time of the collision.

A passenger in the backset was pronounced dead at the scene. A 29-year-old man from Moose Lake and a 26-year-old woman from Opaskwayak Cree Nation were taken to the Grand Rapids nursing station for treatment of their injuries.

The vehicle, a brown Chevrolet Equinox with Manitoba licence place KGW 277, had earlier been involved in an incident at a checkstop on Highway 327 in Chemawawin. Chemawawin RCMP responded to a report of an occupant in the vehicle threatening employees at the checkstop and leaving the scene around 2:20 a.m.
