This week’s featured Norman Northstars travelled east from their hometowns to play for the team in Thompson.
Cheechoo Lathlin, 17, from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, is the team’s top-scoring defenceman and fourth-highest scorer overall, averaging over a point per game. In 23 contest this season, Lathlin has 10 goals and 18 assists, with half his tallies and 14 of his helpers coming on the power play. The 6’, 190-pound blueliner has one game-winning goal and 20 minutes in penalties and has already been named a league player of the week in early October and the league defenceman of the month for November. His uniform sponsor is United Steelworkers Local 6166.
Hailing from Flin Flon, 17-year-old forward Nolan Rideout has one goal and two assists for the Northstars in 25 games this season. The 5’8, 160-pound Rideout picked up one of his assists on the power play and has also amassed 18 penalty minutes so far. His uniform sponsor is Sapach Trucking.
The 11th-place Northstars close out the 2021 portion of their season with a pair of games at home against the eighth-place Winnipeg Bruins Dec. 18-19 after dropping a pair of games to the Winnipeg Thrashers last weekend. The 8-18 3 Northstars have 19 points, two fewer than the Bruins and are one point behind the ninth-place Pembina Valley Hawks. The Interlake Lightning trail the Northstars by six points.
